Dr. D’s Drought Diary: Week 2, Entry 2

When in Drought put MLS Tubs Out! The rain hasn’t come and the grass is looking dare we say “droughty”…

Managing our pastures is on the forefront of our mind. It can be hard to get cattle to move around the pasture properly or not overgraze their certain favorite areas. A great tool to drive cattle to areas we want them grazing are MLS low moisture tubs. The power of palatability is a great tool in our toolbox when it comes to supplementation and pasture management. When your cows are craving their next lick of an MLS tub they will move around a pasture to find it and then not stray very far away from where that highly palatable supplemental nutrition. Where they go is where they graze and now we have them moving to areas where there is forage available and not overgrazing the same spots!

Continue to follow along in Drought Diaries Series for more tips on managing your cow herd through this seasonal weather challenge! Talk to your local MLS Territory Manager today to find the best product to fit your supplementation needs. If your pastures are dry you should give these MLS tubs a try!

Note: MLS Tubs are a supplement formulated to improve nutrient extraction/utilization from a forage based diet and are not intended as a replacement to forages.  If pastures become limited in available forage, cattle should be moved to new pastures with adequate grazing or offered supplemental forages.
